McDonald’s is synonymous with their iconic french fries, which customers adore. According to The Street, they’ve been the go-to side dish alongside apple slices with Happy Meals. While other options like salads tried to make their way onto the menu, they vanished due to low demand.

Competitors like Burger King and Wendy’s, while not quite reaching the fry supremacy of McDonald’s, managed to keep things interesting with various side offerings.

Wendy’s, for instance, has stayed innovative with its side choices. Alongside salads, they offer baked potatoes you can customize with a range of toppings. Their chilli is made from the same beef used in their hamburgers, adding a hearty alternative to fries.

Burger King’s Side Story

Burger King, on the other hand, takes a different approach. They tantalize taste buds with crispy onion rings, a fusion of fries and onion rings called “frings,” and mozzarella sticks. They even blur the line between side and meal with their popular chicken fries.

McDonald’s Catching Up?

Seemingly inspired by their competition, McDonald’s has recently dropped some hints on social media that suggest they’re ready to play the side dish game.

In a cryptic Facebook post on August 25, the fast food giant teased a new addition alongside their famous fries – buttered corn. “Officially entering our Buttered Corn era. Butter, add this as your side for a full meal!” they exclaimed.

But McDonald’s enthusiasm wasn’t met with unanimous applause. Over 75,000 fans reacted, and not all were thrilled.

Is It All Just a Joke?

Given McDonald’s penchant for humor on social media, some speculate that the buttered corn reveal might be a jest.

We contacted McDonald’s for their take on this possible new side dish option but have yet to receive a response.
